Dr. Lilian U. Thompson obtained her Ph.D from University of Wisconsin in Madison. She is currently Professor Emeritus in the Department of Nutritional Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, Canada who still continues her research program.

Her research focuses on components of plant foods responsible for their health benefits and/or adverse effects, their interaction with drugs, and mechanisms of their action.

She has published more than 225 papers in peer reviewed journals and book chapters and co-edited the books "Optimizing Women's Health through Nutrition", "Food-Drug Synergy and Safety" and the first and second editions of "Flaxseed in Human Nutrition". She has presented many invited papers in conferences and symposia, and served in several research granting councils and expert committees.
